Sparkling Eyes For...ever

Get rid of dark circles, eye bags, crow's feet, and wrinkles & puffiness under eyesThey say beauty's only skin deep, but there are times, especially at important occasions such as job interviews or first dates, that you want to look your absolute best and hide the signs of age and tiredness, hours of nervous preparation or worse still, a long sleepless night. Knowing that you look perfect gives you the natural confidence and charm that leave a good impression, and you're one step closer to success. Here are a few tips to get rid of telltale under-eye bags, wrinkles and crow's feet around the eyes.

Puffy eyes are caused by drinking excess fluidPuffy Eyes - Water's Not All Good

Regular metabolism of the body usually removes excess fluid between gaps in subcutaneous tissues. As metabolic rate slows down during sleep, excess water intake within 2 hours before bedtime can result in fluid accumulation around the eyes, making them puffy.

Eye tension, poor circulation and excess salt consumption can cause failure in the regulation of excess fluid and also result in puffy eyes.

Other Causes

Crying, onset of period and allergy to makeup or skincare products (which usually causes the skin to redden and swell).

Treatment for Puffy Eyes

Ice pack

cover the eyes with cotton pads soaked in iced water or table spoons cooled in the freezer; leave for 10 minutes.

Massage

massage the area between the brows, as well as the inner corners of the eyes to help remove excess fluid accumulation.

Dark Circles - The Party's Over?

Dark circles around the eyes are caused by long hours and lack of sleepOur city never sleeps and its nightlife is mesmerising. The party never ends - and neither does the work. Working long hours mean the eyes are constantly under stress; oxygen consumption increases, giving rise to large amounts of deoxygenated haemoglobin, which causes circulation-related dark circles of an ugly dark blue-black colour.

Heredity also leads to pigment-related dark circles (brown in colour). These can be worsened by exposure to sunlight and overuse of the eyes, which intensify the pigment accumulation.

Other Causes

Improper makeup removal causes residual cosmetics to infiltrate the skin under the eyes, forming dark circles.

Treatment for Dark Circles

Teabag compress

Put the used teabags in the freezer, then place them on the eyes covering the dark circles; leave for 10 minutes.

*Caution: Teabags should be squeezed out to avoid further darkening from pigments in the tea leaves

Secret fix

Mix honey with a little bit of milk and apply the mixture to the dark circles; wash it off with water after an hour. For better results apply daily for 7 consecutive days.

*Note: Amino acid in honey and rich protein in milk help resist oxidation and whiten skin.

Under-Eye Bags, Wrinkles And Crow's feet - Signs Of Maturity?

Under-eye bags, wrinkles, and crow's feet are caused by the skin's natural agingAfter hitting 25 years of age, the natural aging of skin begins and skin condition starts to deteriorate. As collagen and elastin in the derma layer decrease, the skin becomes saggy over the years, around the eyes in particular. These, topped with the many facial expressions and an average of over 10,000 blinks per day, all exerting tension around the eyes and tucking the skin in various directions, speed up the formation of under-eye bags, wrinkles and crow's feet.

Other Causes

Dehydration, contact with hot water during face washing, frequent eye-rubbing and prolonged starring at the computer or TV screen.

SOS fix

Beat the white of an egg until thick and apply it around the eyes; leave for 30 minutes and wash off with cold water. This helps temporarily tame wrinkles for about 2 hours.

* Note: Egg white has a natural tightening and hydrating effect on the skin and helps lift saggy skin and smoothen out wrinkles.

Protect Your Delicate Eyes from Ultraviolet (UV) Rays

UV protection for your eyesA healthy golden tan may be charming, but exposure to sunlight causes UV damage to the eyes. It is therefore very important to protect the eyes from harmful UV rays and radiation.

UV rays from the sun are everywhere. Even on a cloudy day or indoors, UV rays can penetrate clouds and windows, whereas radiation from computers, TV or mobile phone screens can speed up ageing and cause damage to the conjunctiva, lens and retina in long term.

UV rays and radiation hit the eyes from various angles. While UV-block sunglasses effectively filter UV rays coming from the front that amount to an approximate 50%, †UV-block contact lenses such as ACUVUE® contact lenses contain UV-absorbents and form a close-fitting protective cover on the eye ball, eliminating leakage from the sides and providing additional protection for the eyes.

† UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.
